Mojácar Red Cross Celebrates Its 4th Cooking Competition

The Red Cross Mojácar Local Assembly recently hosted its beloved cooking competition for senior citizens, a cherished tradition that brings together culinary enthusiasts from the community. This year’s event, held at the assembly’s beach facilities, showcased 15 homemade and traditional dishes, each prepared with love and expertise.

Highly anticipated by Mojácar’s seniors, the competition provided an opportunity for 40 participants to enjoy a day of camaraderie, good food, and lively entertainment. Responding to popular demand, the event took place in the afternoon, allowing attendees to relish the pleasant weather and indulge in a bit of dancing under the moonlight.

A panel of judges, including Culture Councillor Noemí Linares and a seasoned cooking expert, faced the challenging task of selecting the winning dishes. Despite the high quality of all entries, Pilar Benitez Granados claimed the top prize for her exquisite “carne mechada” (shredded meat dish), earning her a coveted air fryer.

Gerónima Soler Cervantes secured second place with her delightful Murcian “paparajotes” dessert, while Islena Bermudez Vera’s tantalizing tabbouleh salad clinched third place. Each winner received a prize tailored to their culinary achievements, ranging from recipe books to beauty cases.

The Mojácar Red Cross deserves recognition for its invaluable work, particularly with the elderly community. Through workshops, activities, and attentive support, they promote active aging and ensure that seniors remain engaged, healthy, and connected, fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment for all.
