Mickey Mouse Provides the Welcome to Mojácar on His Centenary

To commemorate the centenary of Mickey Mouse’s birth, Mojácar has joined the global celebrations by unveiling a striking mural of the beloved Disney icon. Created by graffiti artist Nauní, whose work also graces the walls of Mojácar’s school, the mural adorns the facade of the municipal library, greeting visitors with Mickey’s timeless charm.

As October 16th marks a century since Mickey first enchanted audiences on the silver screen, Mojácar’s Walt Was Here Association, in collaboration with Mojácar Council, orchestrated the installation of the mural as part of their ongoing efforts to honor Disney’s legacy.

Looking ahead, the association and the local authority have ambitious plans to further commemorate Disney’s connection to Mojácar. This includes naming a square “Walt Disney Plaza” and creating an official route adorned with thematic elements related to Disney’s legend, inviting residents to participate in this enchanting journey through the village’s historic heart.

Additionally, the Walt Was Here Association has organized a special story time event at the library on October 16th, where school pupils can meet Mickey Mouse himself. On November 25th, the association will host the second edition of a children’s festival celebrating Disney and his iconic characters, following the success of last year’s event.

Amid ongoing investigations into Walt Disney’s possible ties to Mojácar, the village remains steadfast in its homage to the magic and charm of Disney’s creations. As the association continues its work to uncover evidence of Disney’s Mojácar origins, the village pays tribute to the enduring legacy of Disney and his beloved characters.
