Mojacar Launches New Bus Shelters That Complement the Remodeling of the Paseo Marítimo Pavement

Mojácar Council is undertaking various improvements along the Paseo Marítimo coastal road, including the remodelling and installation of five new bus stops, which represents one of the Council’s recent initiatives.

Four of these stops, two situated at the Parque Comercial and the other two at the fountain, have been funded by the Junta de Andalucía and are entirely new constructions. The fifth stop, located in Río Abajo, is also newly established and is a joint effort between the Almería Provincial Council and the Local Council. This particular stop was created during the pavement replacement project along the entire El Palmeral area.

While these stops have been enhanced for the convenience of all users, special attention has been given to ensuring accessibility for individuals with visual impairments. Adjacent to the bus stops, specific paving stones have been installed to aid visually impaired individuals in navigating the area.

These paving stones include warning signs in the form of surface buttons or domes, as well as lines or curved molding to facilitate orientation. Podotactile paving serves to signal changes in height and guide individuals toward the stop. Button paving indicates proximity to the stop, while curved molding paving directs individuals along the correct path.

As part of the remodelling efforts, larger structures have been installed at the bus shelters along the Mojácar Paseo Marítimo and at the fountain. These structures offer users a more spacious and protected waiting area, with increased shade and protection from the elements, ensuring greater comfort for passengers awaiting buses.

It’s important to note that these shelters serve as stops and waiting areas for both the urban bus service and metropolitan public transport lines that connect to various destinations outside the municipality.
