Training Starts for the Students of the Municipal Rhythmic Gymnastics School After Closing the Last Season With Great Success
The training and classes for the Mojácar rhythmic gymnastics school team have now started following two open-door days, during which many interested people went to the sports center to inquire about the activities, days, and routines the gymnasts will follow throughout this course.
EDM Costarítmica Mojácar, the name of the team, closed the previous season with a dizzying track record. In the group category, they won eight bronzes, six silvers, and two golds. In the individual category, they brought home three gold medals, four silvers, and one bronze. To complete the medal lineup, in the final league, they won six trophies. A total of 24 medals in just one season. You couldn’t ask for more, and it sets the bar very high for 2023.
In 2022, their second year of competition, they were measuring up against the best teams, both from Almería and from other Andalucía provinces. Despite this difficulty, they left Mojácar in an undeniably good place in Almerian rhythmic gymnastics, and they rubbed shoulders, without inhibitions, with other important clubs and sports schools.
This course starts with more than 60 gymnasts, boys and girls, from three years old. Taking into account that in the first year of team training there were only 20, there has been an important progression. In fact, another support coach has had to be taken on to be able to continue with the training in the right way at the level that these youngsters now enjoy.
Rhythmic gymnastics is a category of gymnastics and a sports discipline mainly practiced by women, although today men are also joining in, that combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, and dance, as well as the use of diverse apparatus, such as rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon.
María del Mar Montoya, their coach for two years, is in her third season this year and will continue working with her students until the course ends, reinforcing the exercises on the necessary points, although also having in mind new choreography and a work program that includes participation in the Costa Almería Cup tournament, which brings together the province’s best gymnasts. An event that brings together around 650 sportspeople and with a high level of competition.
For this season, we wish these promising youngsters and their coach a lot of luck and great encouragement, although whatever the result, to see them move around the mat is a luxury at our fingertips in Mojácar.
