Sopalmo Festivities in Mojacar 2023

The Sopalmo neighbourhood patron saint festivities for 2023, in honour of Christ the King, were celebrated in Mojácar.

Sopalmo, meaning natural shelter or cave, holds a special place in the hearts of Mojácar locals and visitors alike. While it retains the authentic essence of all Mojácar districts, Sopalmo has a unique charm that resonates with many, attracting artists and holidaymakers seeking the timeless Andalusian flavour among its streets and corners.

True to its traditions, the festivities included a solemn mass honouring Christ the King, the married people’s ribbon race, junior ribbons on motorcycles, lively dancing, music, and the joy of reuniting with friends and family.

Eloisa Montoya Torres, a Mojácar Council Tourism Agent deeply connected to Sopalmo, delivered the opening address for the 2023 edition. With a history of active participation in the festivities, Eloisa Montoya has a profound appreciation for Sopalmo’s culture and community.

In her address, Eloisa Montoya highlighted the significance of the festivities in preserving traditions, fostering a sense of belonging, and uniting the community across generations. She emphasized the warmth, simplicity, and authenticity that define Sopalmo residents, making it a truly special place.

Ana Belén Torres Crespo was crowned Queen of the Sopalmo 2023 festivities, alongside her Ladies: Rocio Hernández Gómez, Andrea Requena Gallardo, Ainhoa Castillo Zamora, and Paula Flores Piqueras. These young ambassadors will represent the neighbourhood until the next edition of the festivities.

Sopalmo is indeed a gem of Mojácar, inviting visitors to explore its treasures and experience the rich cultural heritage of the municipality.
