Mojacar is the Base for the Spanish Canine Use Sport Obedience Competition

The Spanish championship of ODU (Dog Use Sport Obedience) recently held one of its scoring trials in Mojácar, attracting 40 dogs from across the country representing various breeds and mixed breeds. Participants were divided into official categories based on the dog’s age and the difficulty of the trials, including puppies, basic, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade.

Organized by the Almería City Kennel Club in collaboration with Mojácar Council, this event marked the second of its kind in the region. The trials were conducted in the La Mata area, fostering a spirited atmosphere of camaraderie and competition. Participants ranged from nine-year-old children to adults, showcasing teamwork between dogs and trainers regardless of age.

The event was attended by Mojácar Mayor Francisco García Cerdá and Sports Councillor Jesús Montoya, who presented prizes to the winners. The Almería City Kennel Club’s dedication to promoting teamwork between dogs and owners was commendable, offering a new way for participants to enjoy sporting activities together while fostering communication and camaraderie.

Additionally, the Almería City Kennel Club’s association with the Spanish Mondioring Association was noted, emphasizing their commitment to testing dogs’ abilities to protect themselves and their owners. While this aspect wasn’t part of the trial in Mojácar, it reflects the club’s diverse activities and expertise in working with dogs.

A standout moment was the third-grade prize awarded to Mouse, a small mixed-breed dog owned by Elsa Pinilla from Alicante. Mouse’s journey from adoption to becoming a promising competitor in the 2023 championship exemplifies the results achievable with proper training and dedication.

In recognition of positive teamwork and understanding between dog and owner, the Almería City Canine Club awarded a special prize for the “happiest pairing.” This gesture underscored the club’s commitment to fostering strong bonds and positive experiences between dogs and their owners.
