Festivities in Honour of Our Lady of the Rosary in Mojacar

This weekend, Mojácar is set to celebrate the festivities honoring its patron saint, Our Lady of the Rosary, on October 7th and 8th.
Kicking off the festivities on Friday, October 6th, Mojácar Council has arranged a contemporary circus spectacle titled “Arena Roja,” presented by DaniDanielo. This captivating show intertwines magic and imagination with traditional circus elements, transporting viewers to the year 2044, where characters unite in the face of adversity to bring hope to a world engulfed by the Red Sand.

Simultaneously, the inaugural Mojácar Oktoberfest commences on Friday and continues throughout the weekend along the beachfront promenade in front of El Lance beach. Featuring craft beer tastings, delectable cuisine, live music, and entertaining games, this event is a collaborative effort between local traders, the hospitality sector, and the municipal authority.

On Saturday, the official festivities commence with a Holy Mass honoring Our Lady of the Rosary at 12 noon in the Santa María Parish Church. Following the Mass, a solemn procession featuring the image of Our Lady of the Rosary winds through the streets of Mojácar’s old town, accompanied by dignitaries, residents, and the Municipal Music Band.

At 2 pm, the traditional Senior Citizens Festivity takes place at Puntazo restaurant on the beach road, offering a convivial meal for the municipality’s elderly residents, along with a raffle featuring surprise gifts, live music, and dancing.

Sunday marks the culmination of the patron saint festivities with the ribbon race, commencing at 5 pm at the Mojácar Fountain. Participants adorned in traditional Mojácar attire gather for this exciting event, followed by the thrilling horseback competition where young men vie to collect the most ribbons and earn a kiss from the ribbon’s owner as their reward.
