Rosa Maria Cano Re-elected President of the Levante Almería Firefighters Consortium

Mojácar Council representative Rosa María Cano Montoya was unanimously re-elected President of the Levante Almería Firefighters Consortium at the General Board plenary session held on the 3rd of October at the Turre Fire Station. The Vice-Presidency went to Ángel Collado Fernández, Bédar Council representative.

In her speech, Rosa María Cano took stock of the eight years that have passed since she became president. Upon her arrival in 2015, only the Turre fire station was open, with 16 firefighters. Today, there are three stations: Turre, Huércal-Overa, and Albox, with 46 firefighters. Thanks to the selection process currently open for the hiring of 22 more firefighters, it will mean that in a couple of months, there will be 68 firefighters on the staff.

She also mentioned the effort being made by the local councils of this Consortium and the Almería provincial council, authors of a rapid evolution in their service by investing in the necessary material means and personnel to make their work as effective as possible and the provision of their service more notable for the region’s residents.

Despite this effort, Rosa María Cano also wanted to highlight the need to activate the necessary means so that the response times between the municipalities of the Consortium can be met, not exceeding 20 minutes in getting to the furthest municipalities, and hence being able to carry out their work with greater efficiency and safety.

This will be possible in the coming years with the launch of the service in Níjar, as agreed in the agreement signed with this municipality. The possibility of setting up a new station in the Los Vélez region was also established, as the distances from the existing fire stations exceed that established.

The Levante Almería Firefighting Consortium is made up of the municipalities of Antas, Bédar, Carboneras, Cuevas del Almanzora, Los Gallardos, Garrucha, Huércal-Overa, Mojácar, Pulpí, Sorbas, Taberno, Turre, Vera, and the Almería Provincial Council. Although the area they cover is 48 municipalities, uniting the Almanzora Region, the Los Vélez Region, and Lubrín, reaching more than 200,000 inhabitants and an area of 13,000km2.

With the gratitude of Rosa María Cano to all the representatives of the local councils that make up the Consortium and the Provincial Council for the trust received with her re-election, the General Board session was brought to a close.
