Mojacar’s Schoolchildren Celebrate the Anniversary of the Disney Factory and Mickey Mouse’s Birthday

Infants and first-cycle pupils from the Mojácar Bartolomé Flores Public School celebrated the birthday of one of the best-known animation characters, Mickey Mouse, along with Minnie Mouse and the Disney Factory, by enjoying a morning of children’s stories. This special event featured storytelling sessions led by a representative of the popular couple, “Paula Mandarín,” who entertained 400 children in the Plaza del Parterre with tales of the most famous characters from the Disney animation company. The children actively participated in the storytelling, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Some of the young participants were thrilled to learn that Walt Disney, the creator of their favorite cartoons, was possibly from Mojácar, commenting happily on this potential connection. This initiative was organized by the Department of Children, Education, and Culture, led by Noemí Linares, as part of the centenary celebrations and in acknowledgment of the potential ties between Disney and Mojácar.

As part of the tribute, Mojácar Council has undertaken several actions, including the creation of large murals depicting the story of Disney’s birth and his journey with his mother to the United States. One mural adorns the walls of the Bartolomé Flores public school, while another welcomes visitors at the entrance to the municipality on the façade of the public library.

The official celebration of the 100 years since the founding of the Disney company and the creation of its iconic character, Mickey Mouse, is on October 16th. Although Mickey’s film debut occurred on November 18th, the company has chosen to combine both celebrations, recognizing Mickey as Walt Disney’s first creation.

The legend surrounding Walt Disney’s possible birth in Mojácar continues to gain prominence, with the Walt Was Here Association working diligently to emphasize its significance and gather the necessary documentation to confirm it.
