Mojacar Celebrates Halloween This Weekend

This Friday, October 27th, Mojácar will host its eagerly anticipated Halloween party, a celebration cherished by children and young people from the municipality and neighboring towns alike. “Jaliween Mojácar” is organized by the AMPA “El Jali” of Bartolomé Flores School, in collaboration with the Mojácar Town Council.

Mojácar was among the first towns to embrace this festival, and this year marks its 25th anniversary, coinciding with the founding of AMPA “El Jali” by Mrs. Reding. She established this association at Bartolomé Flores School, which, at the time, already had many students from other countries, especially from the United Kingdom.

Each year, Mojácar’s Multipurpose Centre transforms into a terrifying stage where children, young people, parents, and entire families come together in costume to enjoy a uniquely special evening. The Tunnel of Terror and the Panic Room are perennial favorites among visitors and are the most sought-after attractions, but there will also be many other games, with variations from year to year. Tables stocked with sweets, refreshments, and drinks allow parents to recharge between frights.

Undoubtedly, the most eagerly awaited event is the costume contest, divided into three categories: individual, groups, and families. Contestants will parade around a stage adorned with tombs, mummies, giant spiders, and other eerie decorations. They will showcase their costumes to a judging panel consisting of the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, a representative from the school’s parent body, and another from AMPA.

From 6:00 p.m. on October 27th, at Mojácar’s Multipurpose Centre, all those who dare to venture from the other world are invited to spend a spine-chilling evening filled with fun. The proceeds from “Jaliween” will be donated by AMPA for school improvements such as sports equipment and mirrors in the toilets.

The Parents Association of Bartolomé Flores School actively participates in many of the activities held in Mojácar throughout the year. Upcoming events include Christmas celebrations, a Disney party, carnivals with mask and costume workshops, and Andalucia Day.

The new board of AMPA has already scheduled a campaign to encourage parents of Bartolomé Flores School to become members and actively collaborate throughout the year.
