Mojácar’s Night of the Candles: a Participation Success

Despite a change in date and a previous cancellation due to the “Dana” storm, Mojácar’s Night of the Candles shone brightly, drawing an impressive turnout and earning accolades as one of the most successful celebrations to date.
With over 8,000 candles illuminating the charming streets of Mojácar’s old town, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical, enhanced by the backdrop of a spectacular sky and perfect weather.

The turnout for the event exceeded expectations, with all 15 buses ferrying attendees from the beach to the village operating at full capacity from early evening until the early hours of the morning. The special transport service, coordinated by the Local Council and the transport company, ran smoothly, with ticket sales handled efficiently.

This year’s Night of the Candles commenced earlier than usual, with festivities kicking off in the afternoon and gaining momentum as the night progressed. The Mojácar Pueblo Traders’ Association lauded the event as the “best” yet, crediting the Local Council’s decision to reschedule it for September as a wise move.

The shift in date not only promotes deseasonalization but also aligns with a period when tourist numbers typically begin to decline, coinciding with the arrival of British residential tourists. Hotels reported strong occupancy rates, while hospitality businesses experienced robust activity throughout the evening.

Mojácar Council views the decision to move the event date favorably, recognizing it as part of broader efforts to diversify and expand offerings beyond the traditional summer season. It represents another step forward in enhancing the municipality’s allure and appeal year-round.
